Engage Acts Differently

Spirit, Mission, Church
Discover how the risen Christ continues His work through the Spirit-empowered Church.

About the Book of Acts

The Book of Acts continues the story of Jesus through the lives of His followers. It begins where the Gospels end—with the risen Lord commissioning His disciples and sending the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. From Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria and out to the ends of the earth, Acts traces how the good news spread through faith, courage, and divine power. Acts is a story of people transformed by the Spirit—ordinary believers becoming bold witnesses. It tells how communities were formed, barriers were broken, and the Church took root in every culture. The same Spirit who led them still leads His people today to live and proclaim Christ’s kingdom.

Structure and Design

Acts is arranged around Jesus' promise that His followers would be witnesses “in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Chapters 1–7 describe the Church’s birth and growth in Jerusalem. Chapters 8–12 show the gospel’s expansion into surrounding regions through figures like Philip and Peter. Chapters 13–28 follow Paul’s missionary journeys as the message reaches the capitals of the ancient world. The book ends where it began—with open doors and ongoing mission, reminding readers that the story continues in God’s people today.

Significance

The Book of Acts reveals the unstoppable movement of the gospel through ordinary believers filled with extraordinary power. It demonstrates that the Church’s strength lies not in programs or personalities but in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Acts invites every generation to carry forward the mission of Jesus—proclaiming His name, building His community, and living as His witnesses to the ends of the earth.
